Rick Geiger . . .

After graduation, I continued working at Safeway, staying with them for fourteen years.  During my time with Safeway, and for the remainder of my working career until 1986, I worked primarily in retail management.  In 1986 I began working in the title insurance industry (I even worked for Marty Thomas for a while).  Eventually this led to a career in network administration.  In October of 2001, I moved from Tucson to Phoenix, where I now work as the IT Manager for the Maricopa County operation of Chicago Title.

Mary Lynn, my wife of eighteen years, is the joy of my life.  When we met, I was raising three teenagers on my own.  She took pity on me and eventually married me.  You have to know she's a wonderful woman as she has kept me for so many years.  Did I mention pity?  We have three grandchildren, with our youngest of nineteen months living near us in Phoenix, and our oldest of nineteen years living in Mesa.  My real passion (in addition to my wife) is reading — mostly romance, although it is not unusual for a science fiction novel to find it's way into my hands.

Carl Gruey . . .

I was born in Conneaut Ohio, not far from where I am now living, on June 23, 1945 — a LONG, LONG time ago.

I originally moved to Tucson in 1954, for my mother's heath. Moved to Pennsylvania shortly after she remarried a man she had known for a number of years. Moved back to Tucson in 1957, and went to Jr. high and high school where I thankfully graduated in 1963. I think it was a mercy diploma.

Worked for Roy's Rugs from 1963 to 1965 when I joined, yep, JOINED the Marines. I was in Viet Nam for nineteen months and nineteen days. I got back to the states, discharged in August of 1968 — Honorable I might add. From there I moved back to my birth state of Ohio. I lived here from 1968 to 1969 — a bachelors life (sigh) — then married Diane, whom I met in Phoenix, where my mother moved to after I left for the Marines. Diane and her mother lived next door to my mother. I met Diane when on leave from boot camp.

We married in Phoenix in 1969, December the 20th. We moved back to Ohio, where I was living at the time. I was then employed with Cabot Corp., later to be bought by many companies, and is now known as Millennium Chemicals. We had our first baby, Michael, on the 19th of February 1971. This was a surprise as Diane was told by the doctors that she would never be able to get pregnant. She also had two other pregnancies, a boy and a girl. In the mean time, since we were not pleased with only one child, we adopted my oldest girl Gina. We adopted one other, Sandy, in 1997, who was then a fourteen year old girl. Michael, thirty-one, lives in Scottsdale and is an engineer for a construction group. My oldest daughter, Gina, is twenty-seven and is an RN at an assisted living complex near here. Gina is also the mother to my ADORABLE and only granddaughter, Kylie. My other daughters, Ginger twenty-two and Sandy eighteen, are at home, as is my youngest son, Stewart twelve.

I am still employed at Millennium Chemicals, at the same location, for the past thirty-four years in Ashtabula, Ohio, which is thirteen miles from here.  Our end product is Titanium Dioxide, and I am a relief operator/relief supervisor.

I live in the country on only five and a half acres; however, there is not a house near here. Lots of wild life, which I love. I like to hunt, fish, garden. Most of any TV that I watch is Discovery, animals or anything nature. The picture is from my kitchen window on the 18th of July of this year.

My best of love and life to all my friends from our class. Prayers for all the deceased members of our class. I know that they are in our hearts and thoughts.

Patricia Hand Frannea . . .

Graduated from the U of A in Textiles and took a job in San Francisco. Joe lured me to Midland, Texas, with a marriage proposal in 1968, and we started out on a life of moving with his career, raising kids and restoring and renovating our homes. We were fortunate to get to live so many places and meet so many different people over the years. In Oklahoma City our three boys were born, and I did free-lance textile and pottery design. When we moved to Denver I put those things on hold to concentrate on volunteering in the boys’ schools and working on neighborhood issues. It was there that we really cemented our love for old houses, inner city neighborhoods and their diverse public schools. In New Orleans and Dallas our commitment to those issues continued. When my mother became ill in the 90's, we turned our attention to Tucson again, and were able to come back home in 1996 to care for her and start a new phase of our lives. We came home with the awe of newcomers for the unique beauty of the Sonoran Desert. My interests and passions now focus on environmental and community issues, architecture, historic preservation . . ..  I love being with family, farmers’ markets, cooking for crowds, gardening, the arts and designing almost anything Joe is willing to indulge.

For those of you with a family history at Amphi, perhaps you’d like to know that my older brother Johnny (Amphi 1952) is a rancher in New Mexico, my sister ‘Nita (Amphi 1955) and her husband retired near San Francisco from a life of raising and training race horses in California, and my little brother Mike (Amphi 1973) is in Washington, DC with the USDA Crop Insurance Program.

Mary Harrell Carter . . .

Living in Indianapolis, Indiana

Following graduation from Amphi, I worked for the University of Arizona in several offices around campus for over fifteen years.  I then moved to Pinetop-Lakeside and was a middle school secretary for three years.  I lived in Minneapolis, MN where I was secretary to the Vice Principle of a large Catholic high school for four years.  I left Minnesota, and a marriage, to move to southern California, where I worked for a large publishing company for five years.

Because of the wake-up call of the Northridge earthquake in 1994, I now live in Indianapolis, Indiana, where I share a home with my sister (Peggy Harrell Wild — Amphi class of 1964).  I do freelance conference planning and meeting registrations, etc., from my home office.  Peggy and I share joint ownership of three large cats (only children either of us have!!)

Looking forward to the reunion.

Rick Harris . . .

After high school, I did volunteer work with VISTA and Peace Corps programs, married Myrna Parent (Amphi 1964), graduated from the U of A in 1968 with a BA in secondary education and in 1974 with an MA in geography. I taught school for thirty-three years in Arizona, Chile, Mexico and and for the last seventeen years, in Alaska. Divorced in 1978, and married Karen Stapf (ASU) in Scottsdale in 1986. Together we now have four children and six grandchildren . Always liked sports but couldn't play very well (just ask Coach Genung , Fritz and Steve Campbell), but did get into refereeing HS sports for fifteen years in Arizona, and coaching basketball on the HS level in Alaska for many years. Wound up teaching social studies, PE and Spanish as well (Mr. Lomaglio and Sra. Manzo would be quite surprised at that!).

Karen and I love teaching, traveling , reading, going to movies, camping , fishing, remodeling homes and playing on our farm in Lewis, Colorado (we're both now retired). Over the years our travels have taken us to five continents and many countries, most recently to China as part of an educational delegation to visit schools and meet with Chinese educators. Our current endeavors are serving as volunteers with the Colorado Special Olympics programs and learning how to keep cows in our pasture.

Kit Henry . . .

4 years at NAU — degree in psychology

3 states of residence
— California, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire

2 husbands (not at the same time!)

1 wonderful daughter

29 years in New Hampshire
— like Arizona, it is ...

1 beautiful state with clean air, clean water and more trees than
people!

= 40 years since high school
— IMPOSSIBLE!

[4+3+2+1+29+1=40 — isn't Kit cute!]

My husband Henry and I live in the country near Hancock, NH in a funky old summerhouse. We heat with wood, which keeps Henry pretty busy.  Fortunately we both love winter (see photo taken in our driveway) and all of the outdoor activities that go along with it. Unfortunately we like playing too much in the summer and neglect the house. We wish we were more like the Franneas. We buy old houses but don't fix them up!

My job history reads like the Department of Labor catalogue of occupations. I've done everything from social work to farm work and lots in between. This spring I coached the high school boy's tennis team for the second year. Hanging out with them certainly puts me in an Amphi state of mind! In the fall and winter I work for Staff Development for Educators, traveling to seminars working as an onsite coordinator. I mostly choose to travel to the Midwest so I can tack on visits with my parents, who now live in Missouri. They can still run circles around me!  All in all, I've chosen freedom over a career and have tried to take a Zen approach to work as best described in an old rock and roll song
— "It ain't what you do, it's the way how you do it; it ain't what you eat, it's the way how you chew it."

It's been such fun reading the biographies of our classmates and learning about the different paths we have taken since 1963. Kudos to everyone on the committee for the hard work planning this reunion. It will be great!

Pamela Kaufman Morris Johnson . . .

After graduation, moved to Oklahoma and attended OSU. Married to a jockey for six years, moving twenty times in the Northwestern and Southwestern states. Divorced in 1970, and left Texas behind. Lived in Cypress and Irvine, California, worked for a Canadian company, then eleven years for an SE/Corp. attorney. Later became an office administrator, and eventually a marketing administrator, for an international environmental firm.

My father stayed in the horse industry, and had several horses go to the Triple Crown Races. My older sister was married to D. Wayne Lucas.

I raised my two kids alone. Lisa, thirty-eight, lives close to Prescott, and is married with two girls. She just completed her 2nd year of college and made the National Dean's List. Brett, thirty-four, lives in Glendale, and is in law enforcement. He has one girl.

In 1985, on a blind date I met my sole mate. We're working on eighteen years, but it took fourteen years to "get to the alter!" When John retired from the auto business in 1995, I retired too. John and I have taken three world cruises and have seen the French and Italian Rivieras, Monte Carlo and the races. We were invited to the Monte Carlo Sporting Club with Prince
Rainier in attendance. The ceiling opened over the entire ballroom and fireworks exploded into the sky! We've been to Japan, Singapore, Sumatra, many islands and Bali. We flew the Concord to Nice and Paris. (After three returns from the runway in Paris, we wondered about life.) The return trip to New York was 2-3/4 hours and went ok. We've taken trips to Cabo San Lucas, Baja and nine years of RVing. My travels since birth in Montana covered the entire USA and portions of Canada and Mexico. We average 18,000 miles each summer and fall, plus a few trips from home in the winter. It has been a live long exciting trip so far!

I enjoy horseback riding, some sewing, golf, tennis, hiking (all over the mountains around Palm Springs), off-roading, hunting and 49' gold chain panning. We both love deep sea fishing.

I always wanted to paint, and started under help of professional artist fifteen months ago. I will finish my 4th oil in November when we return home. I love painting. And love the fact that I too was a PANTHER. Let's renew all our young friendships.
