Regina Lane Seaman . . .

Living in Tucson, Arizona

I got married shortly after graduation and had two children from that marriage.  I was a stay at home housewife and Mom for twenty years. My daughter, Terri has two children, Zachary, age twelve and Breann, age ten. My son Jeff,  has one child, Shyann, age four.

I then divorced and went back to school for some much needed training to get into the work force.  I worked for an investment firm as an administrative secretary for the next twelve years.  After the company downsized, I stayed at home for a while and enjoyed doing nothing. For the past five years I have been a secretary for a CPA firm.

Hobbies and interests:  gardening, cooking and "shopping"

I would have loved to attend this reunion. Although I did not graduate from Amphi, I have never forgotten the friends and fun I had there. I have lived in Westminster, California for the past forty years. I have retired from a wonderful career in publishing and travel as often as I can. Hawaii is a favorite place, any and all of the islands. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. (714-893-7081).

Winnie Larsen Hogoboom . . .

Education and career:  After high school, I graduated from the U of A with a BA in elementary education, and then went to Redlands, California, as a 4th grade teacher.  After three years there, my husband and I moved to the small town of Guerneville, set in the redwood trees along the Russian River, about seventy-five miles north of San Francisco.  I taught in the neighboring city of Santa Rosa for seven years, and then moved to a district office job as a project manager and curriculum resource specialist.  Along the way, I went back to school for an academic major (in English) which California requires, and later for an MA with emphasis in school administration.  I graduated with the MA the same year my daughter graduated from high school. Three years ago, I became the principal of a 550-student, grade K-6, elementary school in Santa Rosa.  It's a challenging job that I actually never thought I wanted, but which I actually like doing.

Family:  My husband and I were married for twenty-seven years before his death in 1995.  We met in Tucson while I worked in the public library during college, and married the year after I graduated.  We have one daughter, Stephanie, who is twenty-five years old.  She is married to a Norwegian cartoonist whom she met while studying in Norway.  She is doing graduate work in theoretical linguistics at UC Santa Cruz.  My mother and sister moved here when my daughter was born, so I have been fortunate to have my small family close-by.  My sister and her husband and son live in Santa Rosa; my mother died a couple of years ago.

Personal:  I have just moved out of Guerneville after thirty-two years, to a senior citizen condo community in Santa Rosa.  Since all but a few of my neighbors are retired, and most are considerably older than I, I feel quite young here.  I am an ex-school board member of nine  years, a current Community Concert board member, and I have been very active in my UCC church in Guerneville (I'm now transitioning to a Methodist church in Santa Rosa).  I enjoy attending concerts and community theater productions, reading, walking, and the company of friends and a couple of cats.

I didn't go to any of the previous reunions, but I expect to attend this one.  I'm looking forward to it.

Karen Monrad Groseclose . . .

Following graduation from Amphi in 1963, I began work at Southern Arizona Bank and worked there full-time for a year and then part-time while I attended the U of A.  I met my husband, David, on a blind date in April of  1967 and we were married in December, on Beethoven’s birthday.  We will celebrate our thirty-fifth anniversary this year.  I was a few credits short of graduation when he finished law school in June of 1968 and never finished my degree . . .  maybe this year?

David began his first job as the law clerk to Chief Justice Lorna Lockwood in the Arizona Supreme Court in Phoenix, and I continued my IT banking career by joining Valley National Bank.  David went into private practice with lifelong friends a year later and I had three babies in three years.  Ben (thirty-two), John (thirty-one) and Susan (thirty) kept us very busy in scouting, hiking, skiing, scuba diving and being among the first families using computers at home.  I continued my career as a programmer, lead analyst, unit manager and project manager and I loved my work.  I had help at home, but I wanted more time with my family.  I did not want to look back and say I missed anything.   So . . ..

When Susan started kindergarten in 1977, I left the bank to consult.  For sixteen years I ran Systems Interface as President, CEO and Treasurer; David was Vice-President and Secretary.  That way I could bill anywhere from twenty hours per month up to twenty hours per week on contracts and have the same income and benefits as a full-time employee, yet have the time I wanted with David and the kids.  I consulted with Valley National Bank, Arizona Clearing House Association, Great Western Savings, BCBS AZ, and Bank One, as well as small business clients.  During that time I also served as a Cub Scout den mother, Soccer Club Registrar, Treasurer of the PTA-PTO and active volunteer to the arts.  I may have limited my total income, but I was happy being an “integrator” and not feeling guilty about not having time to be involved with my children.

Supporting David’s spare time interest in James Michener, I assisted in the creation of “James A. Michener:  A Bibliography” (State House Press, 1996) and had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Michener several times in the ears before his death in October of 1997.  The Groseclose Collection of material became the nucleus of the James A. Michener Special Collection at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.  I created the Web site content from the bibliography manuscript and serve as the Secretary/Treasurer of the James A. Michener Society.

After all three children left home, I returned to Valley Bank (now Bank One) as an employee and took early retirement in 2001.  As an independent consultant and Project Manager again, I have spent the last two years on eCommerce, Web, Client Server, Interactive Voice Response and Human Resources related initiatives for several Phoenix based corporations.  I have spent the last eleven months at Pinnacle West Capital Corporation, and am currently sending out resumes to find my next project.

I don’t feel fifty-six, and plan to continue my career for at least a few more years.  We love to travel to visit our only grandchild, Haley Anne, in GulfPort, Mississippi every chance we get.  At two and a half, she is a joy — and we require no additional entertainment.

The Class of 1963 enjoyed the height of optimism in America with great teachers, standards to live by, and a respect for our elders, property, and our country.     That optimism stayed with me . . . Life has been good . . ..

We look forward to seeing all of you next year and hearing stories about your families.

Gary Petras . . .

Living near Trinidad, Texas (South of Gun Barrel City, Texas)

Married to Susann Coate (Amphi 1963)

Retired architect after twenty-five years with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES)

After high school, I attended the University of Arizona, from which I graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. I married my high school sweetheart, Susann in 1967. We moved to Dallas in 1968, and  joined AAFES. Got my architectural license in Texas in 1971. We are blessed with two sons, Jason in 1969 and Sean in 1973.

We were transferred to Seoul, Korea, which is twenty-five miles south of the DMZ, where we lived from 1975 1980. Then back to Dallas for four years before the moving van showed up again. Next stop was a transfer to Munich, Germany this time we were only forty-five minutes from the apartment to the ski slopes in Austria. We were forced to live there from 1984 1988. It was kind of a storybook tale I built PX/BXs and Burger Kings across Europe, Susann bought porcelain.  Our older son dated the General's daughter and was captain/quarterback of the high school football team.

In the early 1990s our organization had to downsize along with our customers, the US military. Early retirement was offered to those who had twenty-five years of service my reaction was "Don't stand between me and the door" so I retired in 1993. We had built a house on Cedar Creek Lake, southeast of Dallas in 1980, which was now to become our retirement home and the start of doing what I had dreamed about all my life living and working on a lake. I built a construction barge , hung out a shingle "Petras Marine Construction" and started my "retirement hobby." No more high pressure schedules, coats/ties or endless meetings.  I can actually commute to some jobs by jet ski.

We have been blessed with one grandchild, who caught his first fish off the front yard sidewalk this spring. We enjoy traveling by motor home and getting off of the beaten path to see rural America. To this end, we have visited all two hundred fifty-four county courthouses in Texas, all sixty-four parish courthouses in Louisiana and are about half way through the county courthouses of Oklahoma. I really enjoy watching our grandson, Seth,  grow.  And even though we live on the lake, I don't fish that much but would rather just cruise the lake by boat or jet ski.  I guess that comes from having grown up in the desert.

Larry Reger . . .

Living in Buckhannon, West Virginia

I actually left Amphi in my Junior year, went to Buena in Sierra Vista for the second half, and then spent my senior year, and graduated, from Tombstone High in Tombstone, Arizona.  Went to the U of A one year, partied a lot, quit and went to work for the State Highway Department.  Had a bad car accident in 1964, spent three years in a full body cast, but other than a steel plate in my leg, recovered completely.  Married Betty Murray, class of 1955, in 1972, and her daughter Laura.  Graduated from the U of A with a degree in Marketing Management.  Went to work for Fluor-Utah on the expansion of Pima Mine south of Tucson.  At the completion of this project, worked as a surveyor with the City of Tucson, retiring in 1999 after twenty-eight years with the City.  City Surveyor and Survey Field Supervisor for the last twelve years there.  My first wife passed away with Leukemia after nineteen years of marriage.  We had a son, Justin, now twenty-six and living in Tucson.  Married Suzanne McNeil in 1995, with two boys — Roy, now seventeen, and James, now sixteen.  Moved from Tucson in May 1999 to Buckhannon, WV where we bought a beautiful Victorian 6,000 square foot, three story stone home on six acres.  Opened The Post/Reger Mansion Inn Bed and Breakfast, where we thoroughly enjoy meeting all the wonderful people.  The Inn is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Have property in Tombstone so I do get back quite often, plus I Elk hunt when I get drawn up by Showlow.  Plan on selling out when last child graduates from high school, and Suzanne and I will move to Saint Croix, US Virgin Islands, which we visited last summer and fell in love with.  Hope you have a great reunion and it's great to read the bios, etc., I had a great time in the Amphi District from 3rd grade to 11th.
